On this episode of Pro Acoustics Tech Talk, Nathan and Coltin walk you through how to connect the JBL EON615 to Bluetooth. Read on to learn how to set up and control your JBL EON Series Bluetooth speaker.

Nathan: Hey everybody, thanks for joining us for another edition of Pro Acoustics Tech Talk. I'm Nathan.

Coltin: And I'm Coltin

Nathan: And we are here today to talk to you guys. We heard you loud and clear about some questions you have about a particular product here. This is the JBL EON615, also applies to 612 and 610 series. Wondering all about the Bluetooth.

Coltin: Bluetooth.

Nathan: So let's take a dive.

Coltin: Nathan back at it again. We're going to clear up some questions that have been on the horizon for us lately, more specifically about the JBL Eon here in front of me. So yeah, there's been questions on whether this does Bluetooth streaming, does it have an app, etc. So we want to clear that up for you, answer those questions. Again, we've heard you loud and clear. So Nathan, tell me all about this guy.

Nathan: Got it. So here in front of me, we have the EON615. The EON Line has been around for a while, had several facelifts from JBL. It's a great product, been using it for a long time in a lot of applications, portable PA, live sound, that kind of thing. And with this model, they came out with Bluetooth. Now, we need to clarify here, that is not Bluetooth streaming on this device. You do not stream audio from your personal device directly into an input on this mixer amp.

Nathan: Yeah, very important there. It is Bluetooth control, which is still pretty Innovative. I mean this speaker has been on the market for a while, so it's worth noting that not everything had Bluetooth built into it when I first started slugging these around on the road. So what's great with these is that you have Bluetooth control, which allows you to download an app either from your iOS app store or Google Play Store, all that kind of good stuff. Download that app to your phone and then sync to this device to where you don't necessarily control Bluetooth streaming. You can control the EQ adjustments of the unit, can a delay time, and do a lot of really cool stuff. So from a live audio perspective, that means I can take this speaker, I can hang it up in the air with a feed from my mixer going into it and I can make adjustments on my app here to actually configure the way the sound works on this so it's a really cool control, especially, once again, been out on the market for a few years now, but we have to clarify it is not Bluetooth streaming from your personal device. So if you need Bluetooth streaming, there are inputs available to where we can plug in an external Bluetooth receiver.

Nathan: So to take a quick spin on the back here with you guys. We do have to mic or line-level inputs on this mixer amp, get gain control and volume levels there as well as some basic EQ presets, but if you go into the app, that's where the fun begins to where you can actually go in and have your own fun little EQ settings, where I can make little adjustments or scoop up the highs or whatever I feel like doing to the system. So we've got some basic control that you can do remotely without having to go to the device itself and make the change on the speaker. So very cool as far as that goes, and you can also even mix the inputs to a degree, as well, from the app. So, what everybody's dying to know, how do you sync this thing? How does it work? So I'm going to go ahead and show you guys here just so you all see it.

Nathan: We're going to go ahead and start off with the unit powered down. That's Step 1. Step 2, Before we boot it up, I am going to hold the boot and the EQ buttons. That actually does a factory reset on the unit and gets out some of the other stuff. From there, I'm going to push that sync button. Once I'm in the sync button, I basically go into my personal device. I make sure the Bluetooth is activated, that Wi-Fi is activated, that I have the app downloaded, and then from inside the Eon Connect app, I actually have four little slots where I can pick up four of the speakers. Click on one of those slots, pair to the speaker, and away you go. I have done that. So, I actually have a master volume control, once again, to turn up and down the volume of the whole system. I've got EQ adjustments that I can make changes on. I can just touch and grab, and also build presets for if I need to load presets or build my own. So, super cool. There also are some firmware updates floating around out there if you need to make adjustments, that kind of thing, but once again, the moral of the story from today's show is you do not have Bluetooth streaming into this box, but you do have Bluetooth control.
