Our Audio Engineers’ Top 3 Favorite Gymnasium Packages on Pro Acoustics Tech Talk Episode 28
On this week's episode of Pro Acoustics Tech Talk Nathan and Coltin take you through our Gymnasium category and discuss a few of their favorite gymnasium systems! They also show how you can chat with one of our sound engineers to customize any system to accommodate your specific needs.
Nathan: Hey everybody, welcome to another Pro Acoustics Tech Talk. I'm Nathan.
Coltin: And I'm Coltin.
Nathan: And we are here today to talk to you guys all about some of our favorite gymnasium sound systems.
Coltin: All right guys, we are on the homepage of our website right now. I'm going to show you step by step how to get to the gym system category page and show you what it looks like. At the top left corner here you have the shop by category. You're gonna want to click on that guy, go down to the very first tab and all you have to do is hover over it. You don't have to click anything and it'll pop up all your different options there.
Coltin: So as you can see we have school sound systems right here. If you go over a little bit, then you're going to drop down, you're going to see stadium sound systems, and then where we want to be: gym sound systems, right here. Just click on that guy. It's going to take you to where you need to be. So you need to scroll down a little bit, and as you can see if you just want to straight jump to talking to one of us, please fill out your name, email, phone. We'll reach out to you real quick and talk about your project.
Nathan: We also have a "Tell Us About Your Gym" button. You'll find on this page. You're going to find a lot of systems down here guys. You've got 25 different system packages down below, spread across a few pages. So if you're not sure what you need, click on that. Coltin: Yeah, absolutely. And I will point out Nathan, that it's not just customer service. These are sales engineers right behind that chat screen, too. Coltin: So going back to the homepage, Nathan, I want you to kind of break this down for me as I scroll down here. And talk about our favorite ones to share. What's popular right now, the types. As you can see, we have different speaker styles and combinations.
Nathan: So obviously guys, I'll be here doing your 10-day forecast on the screen to show you what's going on. But I love this gym category page. So we're going to start off here on the first row. Actually the very first package is one of my favorites. Coltin, if you don't mind, go ahead and click on that for us. What you'll see here guys is four flown Yamaha speakers that come with the fly. 15-inch woofers, so pretty full sound, real punchy. This system package is actually designed for the speakers to be hung in the center of the gym, basically firing out North, South, East and West, kind of like a compass. Those four speakers then wire back to the amplifier that you have here. And then a very, very simple, easy to use, analog mixer. Big round knobs.
Nathan: Here we go. Yeah, it's a rolls mixer. Big round knobs. Mic one, Mic two, bass, treble, master volume. Designed to be very, very simple with the coach, the educator, the principal in mind to where you don't have to have a PhD in acoustics to be able to understand how this thing works.
Nathan: We can go back to the system button up top here, Coltin, real quick so I can give a quick finish up my fly over on everything. Go ahead and click on the actual picture. So we also have the amplifier, two speakers per side of the amplifier. Includes all the wiring you need. Also includes a wired microphone for an announcer nearby near the system, wireless handheld, also a Bluetooth streaming box.
Nathan: Bluetooth range will give you about 30 to 50 feet on a good day. But we can always add wifi streaming boxes or additional wireless mics or locking wall cabinets. All kinds of good stuff to this package if you like it. But this is a very economical way to seriously step up the audio performance in your gym. Assuming you have middle school to small, high school bleachers on two sides, maybe. Maybe even one side, and you're looking for just a handful of microphones as far as that goes.
Nathan: So I think we're about done with this one here. It does include all the cabling you need. Like I said, 500 feet of speaker wire is going to be in this package. And we can give you a diagram of how it goes together. And I'll be honest, I've walked everybody from IT guys, to local electricians, to volunteer PTO dads, to janitors through implementing this system.
Nathan: Very simple, very basic, but great performance, great quality. As always, I have to say, if you do have any doubts about your carpentry skills, make sure and consult a pro. Especially when you're hanging speakers over people's heads. Always follow the manual.
Nathan: So moving on over to that. It's one of my favorite packages like I mentioned, but sometimes when I tell people, yeah, you got to hang these four speakers, they start to roll their eyes and say, I don't want to do all of that. There's got to be an easier way. There's gotta be a better way. So let's move on over to the middle section here, which has the centrally mounted Octasound speaker and then a rack. That Octasound speaker is basically, it's an octagon. Mounts in the center of the gymnasium. Invented by some hockey dads where basically wanted to make sure they could fire out sound to a hockey arena without having to hang a ton of speakers.
Nathan: So, fires out North, South, East, and West. Has the woofer built-in on the bottom there. If you want to zoom in down a little bit lower there, Coltin, on the woofer itself. One cable, one speaker able to do several hundred fans at a high school gym. There also are larger models. This is the 15-inch model. 15-inch woofer, the SPA40. There also is an 18-inch model available as well as some additional subwoofers that we can pair if you really want to rock the house. So that's the Octasound speaker. The rest of the system also includes a rack here for you that has a power conditioner, Bluetooth mixer, wireless handheld microphone, wireless lapel microphone for your principal or your coach or your special event, that kind of thing.
Nathan: Also the amplifier, a media player, wired mic for the announcer, and a locking storage drawer. Also includes all the cabling you need. Very simple to use turnkey package, simpler than the Yamaha. Also one of my favorite solutions.
Nathan: Let's jump on back. Show you guys our last third and favorite flavor. Just to give you a peek. I'm gonna throw a curveball. Colton, I think I want to talk about the second row down here. The first one, the Yamaha gym system package with eight speakers.
Nathan: So we showed you guys a four-speaker package than a single speaker package. What if you've got a bigger gym? What if you got a real big gym, you want it to rock, you want to throw sound to everybody? What do you got for me? Well, this package has eight of those hanging speakers.
Nathan: To give you an idea, those speakers weigh about 60 pounds or so. So they're pretty big, and they get loud. Peak outputs of like 129-130 decibels or so. So this is designed with a high school gym in mind with three of the speakers over each of the long baselines. Baseline the out-of-bounds line, firing at your bleachers. So you got three on each side and then you've got two over the court covering the court itself. So your players get to hear and that kind of thing also.
Nathan: So this package has a rackmount mixer. It's got a locking wall rack here. We've got a wireless handheld mic. We've got a media player, got a big rocking amplifier. Power a bunch of speakers. Locking drawer. And then also some input plates to where if you do have an announcer, you want remotely to where you can put those into where that can connect to your system and then all the cabling we estimate you to need.
Nathan: If we need to make any changes, we certainly can do that as well. Keep in mind, any of our packages can be tweaked or modified to meet your specific circumstances. But this is a really rocking system where I've done a thousand to 2000 seat high school gyms with and could really crank up. If you want to add subwoofers to really give it that deep rocking bass, we can do that too. Keep in mind also guys, if any of your favorite flavors aren't listed in these packages, say you just love JBL speakers, that's fine. We have JBL options. We also have BOSCH ElectroVoice, QSC, Yamaha, Bose, all the major players. We're more than happy to design a system for you.
