The PX1700 is a compact and robust amplifier, weighing a comfortable 35 pounds and occupying two rack spaces. Despite its compact size, it boasts impressive power capabilities, delivering over 1000 Watts of headroom to reproduce music with remarkable clarity and dynamics. This amplifier is designed to handle reactive phase-shifted loads effortlessly while ensuring protection against accidental short circuits.

The primary design goal of the Yorkville PX1700 was to create an amplifier that excels in its core purpose: faithfully reproducing music with exceptional power, unwavering reliability, and uncompromising signal fidelity. Inputs

The PX1700 offers versatile input options to accommodate various audio sources. Balanced inputs can be made using either XLR or two-circuit 'Ring, Tip, Sleeve' stereo 1/4-inch phone cords. Each channel's XLR input is internally paralleled with its phone input, ensuring signal compatibility and convenience. Unbalanced inputs can be connected using standard 1/4-inch phone plugs, with the caveat that a Stereo 1/4-inch phone plug on an unbalanced line requires the ring terminal to be shorted to the sleeve terminal to maintain specified sensitivity.

Modes

The PX1700 supports different operating modes to suit your specific requirements. In Mono mode, both Channel A and Channel B inputs are paralleled, and the gain controls adjust the signal levels for their respective channels. In Stereo mode, the amplifier functions as two independent amplifiers (Amp A and Amp B), driving two separate loads. Bridge mode utilizes the Channel A input and gain control, producing output signals with equal amplitude but opposite phase, driving a single load.

Limiter Switch

The PX1700 incorporates switchable limiters to protect your system's horns and tweeters while optimizing dynamic headroom. The internal limiters continuously adjust the amplifier's gain to accommodate the signal within the available dynamic range. With the limiters activated, you can turn up the signal level until you observe clipping, ensuring maximum clean power output. The limiter switch can be set to the off position to disable both limiters if desired.

Protect LED and Short Circuit Protection

The PX1700 features a protect LED that illuminates in the event of a shorted load or an impedance that is too low for the amplifier to handle. This indicator helps identify faults in the speaker system or cables that require attention. The amplifier is fully protected against various passive load conditions and can operate continuously into a dead short without damage. Additionally, the PX1700 employs DC protection and thermal protection to safeguard against DC output and overheating respectively.

Cooling and Reliability

To ensure reliable performance, the PX1700 incorporates an efficient cooling system. A fan draws air from the front and expels hot air through the rear vents, promoting proper airflow within the unit. The design allows hot air to rise away from the equipment rack while drawing cool air from the floor upward, minimizing the risk of overheating. The amplifier is engineered with conservative power handling capabilities and optimized heat dissipation to guarantee operational stability and longevity. Output Connections

The PX1700 offers multiple output connection options. It includes binding posts and Neutrik four-contact SPEAKON™ connectors for connecting speakers. The binding posts can accommodate banana plugs or wires inserted into the side of the post. The SPEAKON™ connectors are wired in parallel with the binding posts, regardless of the amplifier's operating mode (stereo, mono, or bridge), providing flexibility and convenience for speaker connections.

Power Output

The PX1700 delivers exceptional power output, providing over 1700 Watts of power when operating in bridge mode into a minimum 4-ohm load. In stereo mode, each channel can deliver 850 Watts into a minimum 2-ohm load. The power output measurements have been conducted with stringent testing procedures and ideal power line conditions to ensure accurate and reliable specifications.
