Terrific speakers.
We have two of these installed in a retail store and they deliver music 24/7 without any issues. They look great too!
After many years of experience and unparalleled success in the 2x2 ceiling speaker marketplace installing thousands of commercial ceiling speaker sound systems, we took that knowledge and designed the ultimate ceiling speaker array technology. The SD4 SuperDispersion® omnidirectional drop ceiling speaker array takes ceiling speaker performance to a new level. For 15 years, audio professionals, contractors, and system integrators worldwide have chosen the SuperDispersion® 2x2 ceiling tile speakers for their powerful sound, high performance, and distinctive audio needs.
The SD4 fits into standard 2'x2' or 2'x4' ceiling tile grids, providing an amazing 360 degrees of hemispheric sound. Each SD4 array can replace multiple conventional commercial ceiling speakers saving money by simplifying and reducing installation time and cost while optimizing performance. Its competitive price point and cutting-edge technology make it an excellent value to both end-users and contractors.
Originally designed in 1990, patented and introduced to the market in 1992, this omnidirectional speaker technology is based on a truncated pyramid with an array of drivers working in unison to create a 360° by 180° coverage pattern. This array of four drivers gives the SD4 a significant design advantage over conventional ceiling speakers that produce a limited or conical (flashlight-light) shaped coverage pattern. Conical patterns can result in coverage voids or empty spots in between speakers. SD4's pyramid design produces a spherical-envelope pattern that greatly reduces and even eliminates coverage voids between speakers. Depending on the critical listening demands of your space, one SD4 speaker provides 30' x 30' of audio coverage.
The 6.5" drivers used in the SD4 are the ideal driver size for most voice and music applications because it produces a clean dynamic sound for music and is also excellent for announcements and paging. Four 6.5" matched aluminum coaxial speakers are employed by the SD4 and are designed with robust aluminum-woofers, titanium dome tweeters and butyl rubber surrounds. They are powerful, stable, and extremely resistant to environmental deterioration from moisture, insect damage, rotting, and premature aging.
The speaker enclosure has bass-reflex ports that act as a mechanical low-pass filter which prevents the drivers from reaching very low frequencies and distorting the audio. This results in increased power handling, improved low-frequency output, additional driver stability, lower distortion, and improved bass response. Made from super strong, fire-resistant ABS, the SD4 housing has built-in wave-guides that improve coverage and acoustic performance. The low-profile plenum backbox is acoustically optimized and is only 2.8 inches deep, so it doesn’t require much space above the drop ceiling.
The innovative SD4 is equipped to meet the demands of powerful foreground or background music, public address (PA) announcements, and paging for speaker systems. From the smallest spaces to the largest commercial audio systems, the SD4 delivers high-performance sound and operational versatility. It features a 70 volt transformer with selectable 8 ohm bypass and 4, 8, 16, 32, and 64 watt tap settings that are compatible with most commercial or professional sound systems. This drop ceiling tile speaker system is the go-to speaker for cafeterias and small sanctuaries and an ideal solution for classrooms, churches, retail stores, restaurants, schools, universities, government and military buildings, and fitness facilities.
Even with its powerful performance and reliable heavy-duty housing, the SD4 drop ceiling speaker is much quicker and economical to install than traditional ceiling speakers. Simply remove one ceiling tile, drop the SD4 into any standard drop-ceiling grid, and attach your speaker wire. Secure the speaker from the four back suspension points using the provided carabiners and braided steel safety cable to the desired structurally adequate ceiling points (consult your architect or engineer). Your sound system will be set up and operational quicker than ever before saving your most important currency, time.
With tens of thousands sold and installed in a wide variety of applications, operating 24/7, 365 days a year, the SD4 has proven to be one of the most reliable speakers in the audio industry. This robust ceiling speaker is built to meet the challenging needs and demands of commercial audio environments.

Installed this in a medium size conference room and hooked it up to a Sony Receiver. I turned it up and absolutely no distortion. If you need no compromise sound for your conference room, this is it. I am pleased.
