Samson SM4 Bluetooth Mixer Demo on Episode 7 of Pro Acoustics Tech Talk
The Samson SM4 Bluetooth Mixer is the highlighted product on episode 7 of Pro Acoustics Tech Talk. Nathan and Coltin are demonstrating how to set up, connect and use the SM4 mixer with the Bose L1 Compact PA System and the Pure Resonance Audio UC1S vocal microphone.
Everybody. Thanks for tuning in again to another edition of Pro Acoustics Tech Talk. I'm Nathan, I'm Coltin, and we are here today to demo for you the Samson SM4 Mixer. It’s a Bluetooth mixer with a lot of other cool features that we're going to tell you all about here in just a few seconds.
We have the SM4 from Samson, correct? Got it, yeah. Tell me what it does.
Yup. SM4 mixer here. I am going currently out of the RCA outputs on the Samson SM4 Mixer into the RCA inputs on the Bose 1 Compact System, a great product that will tell you about in a different video. But here we have the Samson SM4, great little mixer that comes with a 19-inch rack kit. Cool. It also has built-in Bluetooth streaming. Very simple to stream and to pair. You've got a white pair button here. You push that button. It will start to flash a little bit. It's flashing a solid white because I've already paired my phone here too. Oh, Gotcha. Oh, But very simple, pairs right out of the box. And very detailed instructions in the manual if you do need a hand. Yeah. But very simple to pair. I've already done that here for us. Just by pushing that button, assigning it in my own personal device, selecting it, turning up the volume and, and we've got beautiful white noise playing in the background for us. For more on white noise, look into our sound masking video that we recorded a couple of weeks ago.
Yup. It took you about 15 minutes, 15 seconds rather to set this all up, right?
Yeah. Really, really simple. Just plug and play. Very simple to plug in, to set up the Bluetooth. From there, that's not the only input. You've also got a microphone level input, which I've hooked up one of our trustee Pure Resonance Audio UC1S’s into the mic input and then you've also got another stereo RCA input. There you can plug in a CD player, or if you're using this in like a hospitality application, in a fitness gym, you might have a cable box, Direct TV box at a restaurant or you know, DJ input for nightclub or lots of options. You've got multiple other inputs besides just the Bluetooth.
From there, your microphone input also has ducking, or voiceover, which basically means that it lowers the source when you talk into it. Oh. So, it's not like actual, yeah. You don't have to actually duck. Okay. You can if you want, but you don't have to actually duck, but basically, it makes sure that this microphone is heard over the music or the source. For instance, you can imagine, “Customer 32, your table is ready, your table is ready.” Perfect and the music returns back to the previous level. Cool.
So, there's lots of applications where that's helpful. Go ahead and shut that off so you guys can hear what I'm saying. So very helpful as far as for once again, fitness, retail, you know paging for emergency paging, things like that. A very powerful little mixer here. As you heard the music, or the white noise in our case, stayed down for a little bit. We've got adjustments on the back to determine how long that hold time is. Okay. So, we can set that for longer or shorter. You know, so if you're a cycling or a spin instructor and you want to be able to just holler real quick, short bursts and have the music lower then have it pop right back, you can adjust the hold time on that.
Very helpful. Also, if you do happen to use the Samson USB wireless mics, you've got a USB input right here. We're using this device. You also have a charging station for your personal device in that USB slot. So that means right now I could be charging my phone, but of course I've lost my cable. So, we'll address that later though. That’s 50 dollars. Yeah, exactly. But, overall, we've got a very simple top rate package, just a handful of inputs on it. You know, we've got our input levels, we've got our bass and our treble so we can fine tune our system. You'll see those at 12 o'clock right now. I don't feel the need to make any adjustments on the L1. It sounds pretty good for our purposes here. And then with Bluetooth range I can expect up to a hundred feet or so.
Keep in mind with Bluetooth ranges that is in a perfect scenario - unobstructed, you know, inside, typically, that kind of thing. And that's the bulk of what we got here. We also have XLR outputs and I'm not using those can be stereo or mono. Okay. With the selection of a button on the back.
